Floor Panel Bears on Wall – Platform with Non-Fire-Resistance-Rated Wall

Floor panel bears on wall below. Wall above bears on floor panel. A positive connection is made between walls and floor panel with dowel-type fasteners.

Purpose: Transfer of vertical load from floor panel and wall above to wall below. Can also transfer in-plane and out-of-plane loads between the wall and floor panel.

Design Notes

  • Capacity of primary load path is controlled by perpendicular-to-grain bearing capacity of floor panel or wood stud walls.
  • Dowel-type fasteners provide load path for in-plane and out-of-plane loads.
  • Because the wood-framed walls are not rated for fire resistance, there is no need to rate the connection for fire resistance.
