Mass Timber Moisture Management: A WIN Thought Leader Discussion

Best practices in design and construction for moisture management of mass timber buildings

The best practice design for mass timber buildings is to keep the mass timber components warm and dry throughout the building’s construction and occupancy. This is achieved by effectively managing the exposure of the mass timber components and assemblies to moisture at all phases of manufacture, construction and occupancy. The intent of this presentation is to educate designers, construction professionals, and building developers on best practice design and construction strategies for the moisture management of mass timber buildings.

By the end of the course, you will be able to do the following:

  • Identify the various types of mass timber components and assemblies, and the risks associated if they are exposed to moisture.
  • Learn how to perform a risk evaluation for a mass timber project and develop strategies for managing potential moisture events.
  • Discover how to create moisture management plan and the key components that are required to make it  effective.
  • Review checklists that can help execute and monitor the developed moisture management plan.
