Alki Elementary School Tour: A Firsthand Look at Mass Timber Construction
May 29 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm PDT
- In Person

Regional In-Person Tour (Seattle, WA)
This unique educational event will provide an in-depth look at Seattle Public School’s Alki Elementary Replacement project in West Seattle. Designers of the three-story, 87,000-sft building utilized a glulam post and beam frame with one-way cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels and steel BRB brace frame to create space for up to 542 students grades Pre-K – 5. The project’s design incorporated feedback from the Alki community to meet their specific needs and educational standards. It prioritizes ease of navigation for all students, parents, and staff while enhancing connections to the community and park. Attendees will tour the site with members of the project team, who will share strategies for successful, code-compliant mass timber projects. The tour format encourages questions and discussion, and attendees can expect to leave with insights into the project’s design, execution, and factors that influenced material and detail selection.
PPE (safety vests, hard hats, safety glasses) is required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own PPE; if you need loaner PPE please indicate this on your registration.
Immediately after the tour, please join us for a Q&A session with project team members. Networking and refreshments included.
