BASICS WORKSHOP | A Comprehensive Introduction to Mass Timber Design

For those new to mass timber design or looking to refresh their design knowledge, this workshop will equip attendees with the baseline understanding to fully engage in main track sessions and start their mass timber designs. Offering a step-by-step approach to the practical design and engineering of mass timber buildings, it will cover a breadth of topics from products and code compliance to fire resistance, tall mass timber construction types, and the specifics of design solutions implemented on built structures.

This fast-moving workshop, tailored for design professionals seeking to stay at the forefront of mass timber, will dive deep into cutting-edge research, testing, and design to advance the mass timber industry. Research professionals, practitioners, industry experts, and thought leaders will share topics including advanced timber techniques, structural optimization, and fire design. From understanding the nuances of hybrid timber systems to leveraging the potential of emerging materials, attendees will gain knowledge and inspiration to tackle ambitious projects and redefine the possibilities of modern timber construction.
WoodWorks Mass Timber Construction Demonstration – Wednesday & Thursday
This year’s live demo will take place on both days of the conference and include commentary from industry professionals and audience Q&A. The structure will be built by Seagate Mass Timber using material provided by SmartLam. Watch last year’s build here.
