2025 Wood in Architecture Awards

Jun 5, 2025
WoodWorks
At WoodWorks, we have the privilege of supporting the designers, developers, and construction teams who make exceptional wood projects a reality. Our annual Wood in Architecture awards offer a moment to pause and celebrate the creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence that define this work.
Thank you to the teams who submitted projects for consideration, and to our volunteer jury for their thoughtful deliberation. This year’s winners exemplify the versatility and impact of modern wood construction. In addition to being high-performing structures, they underscore the power of design to connect people, jobs, and communities.
In Massachusetts, a multi-family development pairs Passive House principles with a mass timber and light-frame hybrid design to achieve efficiency and affordability. A proven concept has a new place in Colorado, where mass timber lends to sustainable Class A office space. From New Hampshire to Washington State, mass timber meets the demands of research environments with precision and beauty.
Wood shines in educational projects. The intentional use of mass timber provides a specialized learning environment at Washington’s only American Sign Language (ASL)-English bilingual school. In Minnesota, exposed timber encourages young students’ connection to nature and play. Universities in Texas and California further illustrate wood’s adoption in public and private higher education sectors and push the boundaries of performance and seismic design.
Each project tells a story about innovation, and a shared commitment to excellence. Whether for work, research, learning, or home, these buildings showcase wood as a resilient and nimble material in applications that designers can repeat and build upon. I hope you enjoy learning about them as much as I did—and that they inspire your vision for what wood can achieve.

Award-Winning Wood Design
An independent jury of design professionals reviewed, deliberated, and selected the winning projects based on four criteria categories: design excellence, innovative use of wood, sustainability & resilience, and market impact.
