SUMMARY:Mass Timber Tour: UC Riverside SoCal OASIS Park
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Tour (Riverside\, CA)\nThis tour-only educational event will provide an in-depth look at UC Riverside SoCal OASIS Park\, a new state-of-the-art facility in Riverside\, California. The project is designed to bring together researchers\, entrepreneurs\, students\, and community members in a collaborative hub focused on clean energy\, agricultural technology\, sustainable transportation\, natural resource management\, community health\, and workforce readiness. Attendees will tour the under-construction project with members of the project team and discuss how mass timber\, including CLT and glulam\, is incorporated into the lobby\, co-working spaces\, and conference areas. The tour will highlight mass timber design\, construction coordination\, material selection\, and detailing decisions for higher education and research facilities. \n  \nPPE:: This is an active jobsite; attendees are required to wear PPE (Safety vest\, hard hat\, safety glasses) and sturdy hard-soled flat shoes. A limited number of loaner PPE will be available to those who need it – please indicate this on your registration. \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 1.5 AIA/CES HSW LU\, 1.5 PDH credits or 0.15 ICC credits \n  \nHost: \nHamid Kaboli\, PhD\, PE | WoodWorks \nHamid is a licensed professional engineer in California and holds a Ph.D. in Building Construction and Technology\, from the University of Massachusetts Amherst\, along with degrees in architecture and engineering. His work centers on sustainable design\, seismic resilience\, and code-compliant solutions for commercial and multi-family buildings\, and includes experience in project management\, research\, and close collaboration with AHJs\, developers\, and design teams to integrate wood and mass timber into modern construction. Outside of work\, Hamid enjoys woodworking\, exploring nature\, and traveling to learn about new cultures\, which fuels his passion for sustainable building and innovative design solutions. \n  \nLocation: \nUC Riverside OASIS Park (meet inside)\n1200 University Ave\nRiverside\, CA 92507 \nMap & Directions \nPark in Lot 51 and scan QR code and enter license plate number after entering the project main gate so you don’t get a ticket. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDiscuss typical construction practices for mass timber projects\, including construction sequencing\, site safety considerations\, installation efficiency\, and coordination with follow-on trades.\nHighlight structural and architectural uses of CLT and glulam through an in-person tour of an under-construction higher education and research facility\, including exposed wood in shared lobby\, co-working\, and conference spaces.\nDescribe mass timber connection and detailing strategies used to support code-compliant design\, structural performance\, fire-resistance considerations\, and coordination between wood and non-wood structural systems.\nExplain how owners\, architects\, engineers\, contractors\, suppliers\, and installers coordinate during project development to achieve successful mass timber implementation in a hybrid building.\n\nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | 312.841.8272 \n  \nRendering by ZGF Architects
