SUMMARY:Mass Timber Tour: Summit House
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Tour (Denver\, CO)\n\n\nAn in-depth look at Summit House\, the nearly completed student housing project at Metro State University in Denver\, CO. We will tour the mixed-use project’s retail space\, academic amenities\, and student housing units. The 12-story\, 200\,000-square-foot structure utilizes CLT panels and glulam framing for a low-carbon solution to add needed student and workforce housing on the Auraria Campus. Attendees will tour the site with members of the project team\, who will share strategies for successful\, code-compliant mass timber projects. The tour format encourages questions and discussion\, and attendees can expect to leave with insights into the design\, detailing\, and construction techniques used throughout the building\, as well as factors that influenced material selection. \n  \nPPE: PPE required: Hardhat\, glasses\, close-toed shoes (boots preferred) Please bring your own\, a limited number will be available onsite. \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 1.5 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 1.5 PDH credits or 0.15 ICC credits \n  \nSpeaker: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEmmy Hoa Tran\, PE | WoodWorks \n\n\nEmmy is a licensed professional engineer in Colorado with experience in structural design for multi-family\, commercial\, and mixed-use projects. Driven by her passion for sustainable construction\, Emmy is focused on helping AEC+D professionals explore opportunities in light-frame and mass timber design for the betterment of the environment and society. She is a proud alumna of the Colorado School of Mines\, holding BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nLocation: \nSummit House \n1405 11th St. \nDenver\, Co 80204 \n*We will meet at the North corner of 11th and Walnut St. Denver\, CO 80204 for sign-in and a safety brief \n  \nParking: \nhttps://aurariacampus.edu/services-departments/parking/parking-lot-options/ \nNote: Fridays are charged at weekend rates so public transportation\, carpooling\, etc. can be advantageous\, but there are plenty of parking lots and garages available on the Auraria campus. \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDiscuss typical construction practices for mass timber projects\, including safety best practices\, installation efficiency\, and coordination with follow-on trades.\nHighlight a variety of structural and architectural uses of CLT panels and glulam through an in-person tour of an under-construction project\, highlighting the biophilic benefits of exposed mass timber for occupants and visitors.\nDemonstrate connection detailing techniques used in code-compliant mass timber buildings to ensure appropriate structural capacity\, fire resistance\, and consideration of the project construction type.\nExplain the diverse methods of project development and approaches used by the design team\, including owners\, contractors\, architects\, and engineers\, to achieve a successful mass timber project.\n\n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nPhoto credit: KL&A
