SUMMARY:Mass Timber in Multi-Family Housing: Is It a Good Fit for Your Project?
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Seminar (Denver\, CO)\n\n\nMass timber is often associated with the stigma of being more expensive than other building materials\, leading to the assumption it is only suitable for unique\, one-off projects. But do its other benefits create opportunities for overall cost efficiency? \nTypical multi-family housing developments are in the 4-5 story range\, often utilizing podium or pedestal construction with 1-2 stories of steel and concrete topped with 3-5 stories of light-frame wood. Historically\, building codes have required steel or concrete for taller structures\, creating a gap in housing development between roughly 6 and 12 stories. \nThis presentation explores whether mass timber can make financial sense in mid-rise multi-family projects and how new provisions in the 2021 International Building Code open opportunities for housing in the 6–18 story range. \n  \nSpeaker: Emmy Hoa Tran\, PE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 1 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 1 PDH credits or 0.1 ICC credits \n  \nLocation: \nBurwell Center for Career Achievement \n2190 E Asbury Ave\, Denver\, CO 80210 \nRoom #340 \n  \nParking Options: Transpo Options.pdf \n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nImage: The Canyons\, Kaiser+Path\, Cantena Consulting Engineers\, Photo Jeremy Bittermann

SUMMARY:Mass Timber Constructability and Costing
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Seminar (Denver\, CO)\n\n\nMass Timber Constructability and Costing  \nThis seminar is designed to give architects\, engineers\, and construction professionals the tools they need to deliver successful mass timber projects from start to finish. \nJoin us for a seminar exploring two critical aspects of mass timber projects: construction strategies and accurate costing. With an emphasis on the general contractor’s role\, we will cover: \n\nHow contractors can meet the growing demand for mass timber buildings\, including an overview of product types\, connection strategies\, preconstruction coordination\, and installation best practices\n\n\nHow to address safety considerations\, and achieve schedule efficiencies unique to mass timber\n\n\nMethods for pricing\, bidding\, and project delivery\, along with resources to help design teams clarify costs and make informed decisions\n\n  \nPlease join us for Q&A and a networking happy hour following the seminar. \n  \nSpeaker: Emmy Hoa Tran\, PE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 2.0 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 2.0 PDH credits or 0.2 ICC credits \n  \nLocation: \nBurwell Center\, University of Denver \n2190 E Asbury Ave\, Denver\, CO 80210 \nRoom #340 \nParking Options: Transpo Options.pdf \n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nImage: 1 De Haro\, Perkins&Will\, DCI Engineers\, Photo Kyle Jeffers

SUMMARY:Mass Timber: Early Design Decisions & Tall Wood Code Provisions
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Seminar (Denver\, CO)\n\n\nThis presentation will walk through early project decisions and design steps\, focusing on how to optimize projects for mass timber and how one early decision can influence others. Topics will include construction types\, fire ratings\, column grids and beam/panel spans\, acoustics\, and MEP integration. Completed mass timber projects will be used to illustrate the variety of viable options when navigating these key decisions. \nFollowing a brief discussion of history and motivators\, this presentation will introduce the new tall wood code provisions and construction types\, as well as the technical research and testing that supported their adoption. \n  \nPlease join us for a networking happy hour after the seminar. \n  \nAgenda: \n2:00pm – 4:30pm – Seminar \n4:30pm – 6:00pm – Networking happy hour \n  \nHost: Emmy Hoa Tran\, PE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 2 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 2 PDH credits or 0.2 ICC credits \n  \nLocation: \nBurwell Center for Career Achievement \n2190 E Asbury Ave\, Room #340 \nDenver\, CO 80210 \nParking Options: Transpo Options.pdf \n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nImage: Ascent / New Land Enterprises / Korb + Associates Architects / Thorton Tomasetti / Photo C.D.
