SUMMARY:Tour of Bunker Hill Housing Redevelopment – Building F
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Tour (Boston\, MA)\n\n\nThis unique educational event will provide an in-depth look at Bunker Hill Housing Redevelopment’s Building F. Designers of the 9-story\, 273\,000 sf building utilized CLT panels on CFS bearing walls to create a sustainable and biophilic project for the building’s tenants. Attendees will tour the site with members of the project team\, who will share strategies for successful\, cost-effective\, code-compliant tall mass timber projects\, including insight on design\, detailing\, and construction techniques utilized throughout the building. The tour format encourages questions and discussion\, and attendees can expect to leave with insights on the project’s design\, execution\, and factors that influenced material and detail selection. \nFollowing the tour join us for a networking happy hour at nearby Brewer’s Fork from 4:00-6:00 pm. \n  \nPPE: This is an active jobsite; attendees are required to wear PPE (Safety vest\, hard hat\, safety glasses) and sturdy hard-soled flat shoes. A limited number of loaner PPE will be available to those who need it – please indicate this on your registration. \n  \nSpeaker: \n \nPatrick Duffy PE\, WoodWorks \nPatrick is a licensed Professional Engineer in Maine. He began his engineering career working on the design of light-frame and panelized light-frame wood construction on residential\, commercial\, and memory care facilities in New England and throughout the southeast. Most recently\, he has gained architecture and engineering design experience on government contracts for facilities across the northeast\, including projects in Rhode Island\, Pennsylvania\, New Hampshire\, and Maine. Patrick aims to share his passion for wood design with project teams and owners\, helping to bridge knowledge gaps and turn the desire to build with mass timber into a reality. He has a BS in Civil /Structural Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston\, MA\, and served six years in the US Army Reserves. \n  \nTour Location: \nBunker Hill Building F \nMoulton St & Moulton Way \nBoston\, MA 02129 \nMap & Directions \n3:00 – 4:00 pm \n  \nParking: \nMetered street parking in area – some may be restricted to residential permits\, check signs carefully. \nNearest parking garage: \nNautica Parking Garage \n88 Constitution Rd \nBoston\, MA \nApproximately 0.5 miles/10 mins walk \nHappy Hour Location: \nBrewer’s Fork \n7 Moulton St \nBoston\, MA 02129 \nMap & Directions \n4:00 – 6:00 pm \n  \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDiscuss typical construction practices for mass timber projects\, including safety best practices\, installation efficiency\, and coordination with follow-on trades.\nHighlight a variety of structural and architectural uses of CLT panels on hybrid projects through an in-person tour of an under-construction project\, highlighting the biophilic benefits of exposed mass timber/sustainable benefits of wood framing for occupants and visitors.\nDemonstrate connection detailing techniques used in code-compliant mass timber-hybrid buildings to ensure appropriate structural capacity\, fire resistance\, and consideration of the project construction type.\nExplain the diverse methods of project development and approaches used by the design team\, including owners\, contractors\, architects\, and engineers\, to achieve a successful mass timber project.\n\n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nLeeAnn Charpentier\, CMP | leeann.charpentier@woodworks.org | (301) 633-0330 \n  \nPhoto: Bunker Hill\, Nick Nigro\, Leggat McCall Properties LLC
