SUMMARY:Alki Elementary School Tour: A Firsthand Look at Mass Timber Construction
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Tour (Seattle\, WA)\n\n\nThis unique educational event will provide an in-depth look at Seattle Public School’s Alki Elementary Replacement project in West Seattle. Designers of the three-story\, 87\,000-sft building utilized a glulam post and beam frame with one-way cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels and steel BRB brace frame to create space for up to 542 students grades Pre-K – 5. The project’s design incorporated feedback from the Alki community to meet their specific needs and educational standards. It prioritizes ease of navigation for all students\, parents\, and staff while enhancing connections to the community and park. Attendees will tour the site with members of the project team\, who will share strategies for successful\, code-compliant mass timber projects. The tour format encourages questions and discussion\, and attendees can expect to leave with insights into the project’s design\, execution\, and factors that influenced material and detail selection. \n  \nPPE (safety vests\, hard hats\, safety glasses) is required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own PPE; if you need loaner PPE please indicate this on your registration. \n  \nImmediately after the tour\, please join us for a Q&A session with project team members. Networking and refreshments included. \n  \nHost: Michael Muller\, PE\, SE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 1.5 AIA HSW or 0.15 ICC credit \n  \nLocation: \nAlki Community Center (GC Office on site) \n5817 SW Stevens St \nSeattle\, WA 98116 \n  \nMeet at East side entrance – SW Stevens St & 58th Ave SW \nMap \nLimited\, but available\, street parking \n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nAlki Elementary Replacement\, Mahlum Architects\, PCS Engineers\, Photo WoodWorks
