DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Seminar + Tour (East Lansing\, MI)\n\n\nA New Path Forward for Tall Wood Construction + Michigan State University STEM Facility Site Tour \nSeminar\, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm EDT \nModern building products and evolving codes have opened the door to many new opportunities for construction\, one of which is tall wood. In 2019\, the International Code Council (ICC) approved a set of proposals to allow tall wood buildings of up to 18 stories as part of the 2021 International Building Code (IBC). This presentation will provide an in-depth review of the tall wood code provisions\, from a review of the technical research and testing that supported their adoption to the methods of addressing the new requirements. \nMSU STEM Building Tour\, 1:00 pm – 2 pm EDT \nJoin project team members for a tour of Michigan State University’s new STEM Teaching and Learning Facility\, which includes two mass timber wings flanking the decommissioned\, revitalized\, and repurposed Shaw Lane Power Plant. \n  \nSchedule: \n9:30 – 10:00am: Registration \n10:00 – 12:30pm: Presentation \n12:30 – 1:00pm: Lunch \n1:00 – 2:00pm: Tour \n  \n \nThis seminar is supported in part by MassTimber@MSU\, a program at Michigan State University that leverages research\, education\, outreach\, communications\, policy\, and partnerships to advance sustainable mass timber construction and manufacture in Michigan and the surrounding region. SUMMARY:One Bridgeland Green Tour
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Tour (Cypress\, TX)\n\n\nThis unique educational event will provide an in-depth look at One Bridgeland Green\, Houston’s first mass timber office built on spec. As part of the Bridgeland mixed-use development by Howard Hughes\, this 58\,000 sqft building is defined by its gabled roof topped with a linear cupola and large timber framed balconies at each floor level.  The project utilizes CLT shear walls and DLT decking supported by a glulam frame.  Attendees will tour the site with project team members\, who will share strategies for successful\, code-compliant mass timber projects. The tour format encourages questions and discussion\, and attendees can expect to leave with insights into the project’s design\, execution\, and factors that influenced material and detail selection. \n  \nPPE (safety vests\, hard hats\, safety glasses) is required.
