SUMMARY:Mass Timber in Multi-Family: Key Considerations and Advanced Fire Design
DESCRIPTION:Regional Online Seminar (CA-North\, HI\, ID-South\, NV\, OR\, UT)\n\n\nLearn how mass timber and hybrid wood building systems can help address critical gaps in the multi-family housing market and the changes introduced in the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) that significantly expand the opportunities for tall timber structures. The presentation will review: \n\nKey design considerations for mass timber in multi-family projects for both mid-rise hybrid with light-frame and tall timber. Case study examples will also be presented.\n\n\nNew construction types (Type IV-A\, IV-B\, and IV-C) in the 2021 IBC that allow for the use of mass timber or noncombustible materials in buildings up to 18 stories tall\n\n\nMethods of addressing requirements for fire resistance\, including allowable building sizes\, methods of demonstrating fire-resistance ratings\, and allowances for exposed timber\n\n  \nHost: Chelsea Drenick\, SE and Kate Carrigg\, PE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 2.0 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 2.0 PDH credits or 0.2 ICC credits \n  \nOnline Attendees: \n\nWoodWorks will send each attendee a certificate of completion within 2 weeks via email.\nPlease note that to receive a certificate\, attendees must stay for the duration of the event.\n\n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nHeartwood\, atelierjones\, DCI Engineers\, rendering atelierjones

SUMMARY:Mass Timber: Early Design Decisions & Tall Wood Code Provisions
DESCRIPTION:Regional In-Person Seminar (Denver\, CO)\n\n\nThis presentation will walk through early project decisions and design steps\, focusing on how to optimize projects for mass timber and how one early decision can influence others. Topics will include construction types\, fire ratings\, column grids and beam/panel spans\, acoustics\, and MEP integration. Completed mass timber projects will be used to illustrate the variety of viable options when navigating these key decisions. \nFollowing a brief discussion of history and motivators\, this presentation will introduce the new tall wood code provisions and construction types\, as well as the technical research and testing that supported their adoption. \n  \nPlease join us for a networking happy hour after the seminar. \n  \nAgenda: \n2:00pm – 4:30pm – Seminar \n4:30pm – 6:00pm – Networking happy hour \n  \nHost: Emmy Hoa Tran\, PE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 2 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 2 PDH credits or 0.2 ICC credits \n  \nLocation: \nBurwell Center for Career Achievement \n2190 E Asbury Ave\, Room #340 \nDenver\, CO 80210 \nParking Options: Transpo Options.pdf \n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nJaime Krohn\, CMP | jaime@woodworks.org | (312) 841-8272 \n  \nImage: Ascent / New Land Enterprises / Korb + Associates Architects / Thorton Tomasetti / Photo C.D.
