SUMMARY:Frame it Right: Optimizing Size & Framing Efficiency in Mid-Rise Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Regional Online & In-Person Event (Charlotte\, NC)\n\n\nIncreasingly\, building designers and developers are looking to mid-rise wood construction as a cost-effective and sustainable solution for commercial and multi-family buildings. This presentation will review the allowable construction types\, with an emphasis on the opportunities and advantages of using light-frame wood in Types III and V. Presenters will cover design considerations associated with these projects\, including how to maximize height and area through the use of sprinklers\, open frontage\, sloping sites\, podiums\, and mezzanines. Common framing methods will also be discussed in the context of ensuring that projects are designed to be structurally sound\, constructable\, and code compliant. \n  \nAttendees can Earn 2.0 AIA/CES LUs\, 2.0 PDH credits or 0.2 ICC credits \n  \nSpeakers: Jessica Scarlett\, EIT\, WoodWorks | Warren Hamrick\, Engineered Wood Specialist APA – The Engineered Wood Association \n  \nIn-Person Attendees: \nIn-person includes breakfast from 8:30am – 9:00am. \nVenue: \nHygge Wesley Heights\n1026 Jay Street\nCharlotte\, NC 28208 \nFree parking on site \n  \nOnline Attendees: \n\nWoodWorks will send each attendee a certificate of completion within 2 weeks via email.\nPlease note that to receive a certificate\, attendees must stay for the duration of the event.\n\n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nLeeAnn Charpentier\, CMP | leeann.charpentier@woodworks.org | (301) 633-0330 \n  \nImage: Crescent Terminus\, Lord Aeck Sargent\, SCA Consulting Engineers\, photo Richard Lubrant

SUMMARY:Exploring Tall Timber Building Design
DESCRIPTION:Regional Online Seminar (GA\, AL\, LA\, MS\, FL )\n\n\nThe 2021 International Building Code (IBC) introduced changes allowing up to 18 stories of mass timber construction\, creating new opportunities for tall wood design. This presentation will review the tall wood code provisions\, including the three new construction types (IV-A\, IV-B\, and IV-C)\, and the technical research and testing that supported their adoption. The session will also cover critical aspects of design and construction unique to tall wood buildings\, ranging from sprinkler requirements and shaft wall considerations to fire design for penetrations and acoustics performance. \n  \nSpeaker: Laura Cullen\, PE | WoodWorks \n  \nCredits: Attendees can earn 2.0 AIA/CES HSW LUs\, 2.0 PDH credits or 0.2 ICC credits \n  \nOnline Attendees: \n\nWoodWorks will send each attendee a certificate of completion within 2 weeks via email.\nPlease note that to receive a certificate\, attendees must stay for the duration of the event.\n\n  \nFor questions or additional information\, please contact: \nLeeAnn Charpentier\, CMP | leeann.charpentier@woodworks.org | (301) 633-0330 \n  \nImage: 11 E Lenox\, Monte French Design Studio\, H+O Structural Engineers\, Photo Jane Messinger
