Swarthmore College Dining Center Tour: A Look at Mass Timber Construction

This unique educational event will provide an in-depth look at the Swarthmore College Dining Center, a completed 40,000-SF dining addition at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA. The hybrid structure consists of sustainably sourced mass timber and steel, and is a key component of the College’s to Zero by Thirty-Five Initiative, which sets the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035. Mass timber contributes to a lower carbon footprint and to the ambitious reimagination of Swarthmore’s dining experience, providing biophilic design benefits and a healthy indoor environment.

Attendees will tour the site with the Facility Manager and project team members, who will share information on detailing and construction techniques utilized throughout the building. The tour format encourages questions and discussion, and attendees can expect to leave with insights on the project’s design and execution and an understanding of the factors that influenced material and detail selection.

Following the tour, you’re invited for drinks, appetizers, and networking in the Dining Center.
