Designing and Building with Mass Timber + Tour of First United Bank

This unique educational event will provide classroom-style learning and hands-on experience to increase designers’ understanding of mass timber project design and construction. Firms have varying degrees of familiarity with the products and practicalities of designing, sourcing, and building a modern mass timber structure, and early adopters have played a significant role in educating the rest of the community. The presentation portion of this event seeks to build on the knowledge-sharing environment unique to the mass timber community, providing an overview of products, planning, design, and implementation to maximize the benefits mass timber buildings can deliver. We’ll also discuss why some mass timber projects face resistance, and how to overcome common misconceptions. Next, attendees will tour the First United Bank project in Moore, OK, with project team members, who will share information on mass timber detailing and construction techniques utilized throughout the building. The tour format encourages questions and discussion, and attendees can expect to leave, not only with insights on the project’s design and execution, but factors that influenced material and detail selection.
