ACME Timber Lofts: A Firsthand Look at Mass Timber Construction

ACME Timber Lofts is a vertical expansion and renovation of an existing 3.5-story, unreinforced masonry structure, with a new CLT core from the ground up. The building is 150 years old and the ACME Furniture business was a multi-generational fixture since New Haven’s industrial days. ACME is also designed to Passive house standards.  The five-story renovation will contain 18 residential apartments, a ground floor commercial retail space, and a cellar gym, storage, amenity space, rooftop tenant, and solar panels. Located at 33 Crown Street in the Ninth Square Historic District, the ACME building served as the headquarters for ACME Furniture since the late 1980s until its closure in 2017 is situated in the bustling nexus that connects New Haven’s train stations and residential neighborhoods to Downtown, the Yale New Haven medical complex, and Yale University.

This is an active construction site and attendees are required to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, hard hats and vests. WoodWorks will provide PPE for those needing it – please indicate this on your registration.

Following the tour, attendees are invited to attend a networking coffee hour from 3:00-4:00 pm.

• Onsite tour 2:00 – 3:00 pm led by Jeff Spiritos, ACME Timber LLC (developer), and Andrew Ruff, Gray Organschi Architects (project architect).
• Networking coffee hour 3:00-4:00 pm
• We will follow the safety protocols of the venue.
