WEB INAR – Designing the World’s Tallest Mixed-Use Building
September 11, 2013 – 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join at 10 am Pacific, 11 am Mountain, 12 pm Central, 1 pm Eastern
This session will focus on the design and construction of the nine-story Stadthaus building in London (UK), which is the world’s tallest mixed-use wood structure. It will emphasize the unique features that allowed nine stories to be erected in nine weeks, shortening the entire construction schedule by 23 weeks while satisfying safety and other building code requirements. Built in cross laminated timber (CLT), the Stadthaus includes 29 apartments and a residents’ office, and is a modern and engaging counterpart to the neighborhood’s ground-hugging slab blocks built in the 1950s and ’60s.
A principal at Waugh Thistleton Architects, Andrew Waugh is fiercely passionate about architecture and the built environment and firmly committed to designing and building intelligent, accessible and environmentally sustainable buildings. He lectures extensively on the importance of corporate social responsibility, at events such as the prestigious Green Building Workshop organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Andrew teaches regularly throughout the UK and abroad, with responsibilities that range from visiting lecturer in Mexico City to design tutor and critic at East London University.
