WEBINAR – Cost Effective, High Performance: Meeting the Challenges of Mixed-Use Podium Design

Framed within the twin objectives of high performance and low cost, this presentation will focus on International Building Code (IBC) provisions and structural challenges associated with designing a podium structure. Opportunities to utilize advanced framing and cross laminated timber (CLT) will also be discussed.

Speaker Bio

Scott Nyseth, PE, StoneWood Design

Scott Nyseth, PE is the founder of Stonewood Design and has worked as a Structural Engineer and consultant specializing in concrete and timber for 14 years. Mr. Nyseth has consulted on many sustainable projects including Advanced Wood Framing, Net Zero projects, Living Buildings, LEED, Straw Bale, Cross Laminated Timber, and innovative methods of thermally debridging exterior wall systems. He has been designing five story timber buildings since 1997, and is currently looking at six story office buildings with a hybrid structural system which uses Cross Laminated Timber as the floor system. Mr. Nyseth frequently lectures to clients and peers on economical and sustainable timber system alternatives. He is a member of the ANSI Committee writing the current manufacturing standards for Cross Laminated Timber for North America. He is also in the approval process for becoming a member of the American Wood Council code writing committees for wind/seismic as well as Cross Laminated Timber.
