In partnership with WoodWorks, RISA Technologies has expanded its popular building design software package to incorporate for the first time a full range of wood design features. To celebrate this unique opportunity to design wood buildings more easily and quickly, WoodWorks is awarding a select number of RISA licenses to qualified engineers and/or engineering firms.

The Prize

WoodWorks is awarding 200 licenses to the software package—which includes RISA-3D v8.1 and RISAFloor v4.1—as well as regional training opportunities (where available) and six months maintenance.

Eligibility and Terms

To be eligible, engineers and/or engineering firms must be new RISA-3D and RISAFloor users.

Successful applicants must also agree to:

  • Use the software to design a non-residential wood building in a WoodWorks region within six months of receiving the license*
  • Provide information to WoodWorks for a written case study on the project
  • Share information on their next three wood building designs for the purpose of case study development and other WoodWorks educational materials
  • Pay a $250 administration fee
  • Agree to the requirements as stipulated in the license agreement*

WoodWorks technical directors are available to provide support related to code and other issues throughout the design and construction process. For a list of project services and contact information, click here.

The New Wood Features

The updated software package can be used to design all wood buildings or hybrid structures of wood and concrete, wood and steel or wood and masonry. It covers analysis and design both for gravity and lateral forces, including shear wall and diaphragm modeling, analysis and design. It also integrates current codes such as the National Design Specification® for Wood Construction (NDS®), International Building Code 2006 and California Building Code 2007.
